Most green smoothies fail for the same reason: they are built like a juice and taste like a lawn. This one is built like a meal. The fat from the avocado and the pumpkin seeds slows everything down, the frozen banana does the work an ice cube would do without watering the glass down, and the moringa goes in last so it stays bright.
What you need
- 1 frozen banana, broken into pieces (about 100 g)
- A generous handful of baby spinach (about 40 g)
- ΒΌ of a ripe avocado
- 1 tablespoon pumpkin seeds
- 180 ml chilled coconut water
- 1 teaspoon Moriveda Moringa Powder
Method
- Freeze the banana the night before. This is the single step people skip and the single step that decides the texture β cold fruit thickens the blend without diluting it.
- Blend the spinach with the coconut water first, on its own, until there are no green flecks left. Greens need the liquid to break down properly; adding everything at once leaves them stringy.
- Add the banana, avocado and pumpkin seeds. Blend until smooth.
- Add the moringa last. Pulse on the lowest speed for eight to ten seconds β just enough to disperse it.
Why moringa goes in last. Long, high-speed blending warms the mixture through friction, and heat plus air is what turns a vivid green drink olive-brown by the time you sit down. Folding the powder in at the end keeps both the colour and the fresh, grassy note.
If it tastes too green
Start at half a teaspoon rather than a full one and build up over a week. A squeeze of lime or a couple of soaked dates will round off the edge without turning it into dessert. Moringa has a genuine flavour β slightly peppery, a little like rocket β and it is easier to learn to like it than to hide it.
